seven days, seven snaps

Quesadillas are easily one of my favorite lunches. During a recent Walmart run, I was browsing the appliance aisle and spotted these adorable mini presses for just $10. They had options for mini waffles, sandwiches, and quesadillas, so I decided to throw one in my cart. Honestly, I use it way more than I ever expected! Today was a perfect example. Since it really is “mini,” I use street taco-sized tortillas. You can make pretty much any kind of sandwich press you want. Today I went with ham and Swiss, but other times I love just standard Mexican-style cheese. Once it’s nice and hot, I top it with some mild picante sauce. Paired with fresh cherries and the very first cherry tomatoes picked straight from my garden, it was the perfect lunch!

Buckys Friends

It was a wonderful morning catching up with old friends. I started the day meeting Kathy (back left) at McDonald’s for breakfast before heading to AT&T. The other three pictured were loyal customers at our family-owned restaurant, back when they would visit daily for coffee, breakfast, and later, lunch or dinner. Now that the restaurant has been sold, this group (& others) continues their tradition by gathering regularly at McDonald’s. It was a true pleasure seeing them all!

Pro tip: Maybe don’t let the selfie stick steal the show. Note to self: work on being more discreet next time, haha!

After breakfast, AT&T and visiting my parents it was time to head home. On the way out of town, you can see this huge banner. Today I snapped the below pictures.

fifa

Football brings Algeria and city of Lawrence, Kansas together. Read the article!

The large banner hanging across the front of Lawrence City Hall features street photography by Gary Mark Smith. Titled “Soka Kila Mahali” (Swahili for “Soccer Everywhere”), the display showcases 13 images highlighting soccer in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

project 365

When my daughter asked me to spend time with my granddaughters, she didn’t have to ask twice! After picking Brie up from her wrestling workout, she filled me in on the tree-top drama. Apparently, during their July 4th get-together, they were aiming the fireworks so everything would land in their own yard. But the wind had other plans and blew the debris right into the neighbor’s tree! Luckily, there were no issues and everything turned out fine.

coloring

During another visit with the granddaughters, we started a coloring project together. I was really happy with how mine turned out, and I actually just finished it today! I enjoyed it so much that I went out and bought an inexpensive set of colored pencils to keep practicing. I know I can find higher-quality ones at a hobby shop, but I want to make sure I stick with the hobby before investing in anything fancy.

parents

My dad is always telling me and the grand girls to get off of our phones when we visit. Well, I just had to take these pictures. Hmm, hey dad, get off of your phone. Mom, you too! 🙂

They each were on their phones at the same time. I never called my dad out-hahah

garlic

Kevin’s garlic patch included some large bulbs left over from last year. Since garlic continues to grow and branch out if it isn’t harvested, we had to clear the dirt from the roots and separate the branched-out sections. Afterward, we laid them all out so the stems could dry.

As Kevin dug into the soil, I followed right behind him, pulling the garlic fresh from the earth. The aroma was amazing, the intensely rich and strong. I couldn’t help but laugh and think that this harvest would definitely keep the vampires away! 🙂

Fruity Dynomite

I started the day with a bowl of Fruity Dyno-Bites. A knock off of the cereal Fruity Pebbles. This is one of my childhood favorite cereal!

garlic cloves

Yesterday’s garlic harvest is looking great. After last night’s rain washed away the dirt, we left it out today to dry the stems. Around noon, we brought it into the garage to get it out of the direct sun. Next, Kevin is going to show me what we need to do with it.

365project

I just joined the 365 project online group! I usually stick to the free version of things first. Once I prove to myself that I can actually keep up with taking a photo every single day, then I’ll upgrade to the yearly subscription. I checked the App Store to download it. Since they don’t have an app, my workaround was just adding the website link directly to my phone’s home screen. (If you want to do the same, today’s picture is the instruction for both Android and iOS!)

mikes

Some days a cold resfreshing drink is needed. 😉 I have never acquired the taste for coffee or beer. Mike’s Hard Black Cherry Lemonade is a taste I do like!
