Toilet Seat Cover is also known as the “potty bib”.
The Paper Toilet Seat Cover
It is one of those “hidden in plain sight” design features that feels like a total revelation once you see it! Most people (like me) just lay it on top. Hoping for the best, but there is actually a specific bit of engineering behind that little flap. I had the “aha!” moment when I discovered the secret to the flap!
The Proper Technique
For those who are still wrestling with these paper puzzles, here is the intended way to use them:
- The Perforation: You don’t tear the middle flap out and throw it away. You poke the perforations so the flap hangs down. Be careful to not rip the paper like I did in the picture below.
- The Direction: The flap is meant to hang into the water at the front of the bowl (the open part of the “U”).
- The Benefit: When you flush, the suction of the water pulling on that flap automatically drags the entire paper cover down the drain so you don’t have to touch it. 🙂
The red arrows point to where I ripped the cover. The only part that should be torn is just above, the center part. That center part hangs down into the stool water. Which will get flushed away.
It’s surprisingly satisfying when you realize the flap is actually a “self-flushing” anchor rather than just extra paper in the way. No more awkward hovering or manual disposal!
I am absolutely thrilled! Solving the mystery of the flap is no small feat! 🙂
Did you ever wonder…….
Why Public Toilet Seats Are U-Shaped
The “U” shape, officially known as an open-front seat, is a standard requirement in many American plumbing codes for public restrooms. While it might look like a piece is missing, the design is a deliberate choice rooted in hygiene, safety, and practicality.
What’s a specific quirky thought that’s been rattling around in your head lately? Don’t hold back, I’m ready to dive into the rabbit hole with you!
Yesterday is today’s memory.
Be sure to capture your memory today!
All the best,.

So many people use these incorrectly. Thank you for the information.
It wasn’t too long ago that I was one of the ones to use incorrectly. Thought it would make for a great blog post 🙂 hahaha
All the best.
