Yes, school buses are safe. The design of the bus itself was built on protecting the students. Strong, closely spaced, padded seats will keep the student contained if an accident occurred. Large size; flashing lights, and stop sign arms make the bus visible. The drivers are trained professionals. Distractions prevents the driver from giving full attention to the road and other vehicles.
Expectations (rules)
- Seat to Seat
- Back to Back
- Out of Aisle
- Inside Voices
School bus drivers must concentrate on driving. The student’s behavior can cause distractions for the driver, who needs to stay focused on the road. It is essential to adhere to the outlined expectations to ensure a safe and smooth journey for everyone on board. The school bus is an extension of the classroom, not the gym class 🙂
The hardest part of being a school bus driver involves the immense responsibility of managing student behavior and their safety; while simultaneously navigating traffic.
Weather and road conditions can also affect school bus safety. Read Buses and Weather.
What are some of your memories as a child riding the bus to school? Did the bus driver ever need to pull over securing the bus waiting for everyone to be quiet, use inside voices? Please do share!
Take care and best wishes.
