Grocery Store Date

Hi, I hope your day is off to a great start! I had the perfect plan: a marathon of sleep and a strict ‘pajamas-only’ dress code. Then there’s my husband, who treated 5:00 AM like a late start. My day was going as planned until my husband said we could go for lunch.

So I pulled on some jeans, keeping my pj top on. Put my hair up in a ponytail. I was ready! He took me to our local grocery store. That’s right. The deli has some of the best chicken tenders and biscuits. Once finished, I thought we were headed home. Instead we went to the next town over grocery store. It’s brand new, Fareway.

Have you ever been to this grocery chain? Apparently, it’s a favorite in Iowa. They are recognized for high-quality meat departments, farm-fresh produce, and to-your-car service. Years ago I worked for Dillon’s. Fareway reminds me of how Dillon’s used to be. The store was busy, but service was incredibly fast. The meat department had approx six clerks on hand, meaning no wait at all. Checkout was just as quick. Excellent staffing and very efficient. It’s amazing what you notice when the lines aren’t holding you up. There were so many fascinating things to see.

Observations

There was a lady giving out samples of blueberry vanilla goat cheese. Surprisingly, it was good! I have heard of goat cheese but never tried it before.

Child sized shopping carts were available for the little kids to push. Mom’s followed the kids and placed items into the cart for purchase. One little girl (not pictured) had a cart full!

What impressed me most was in the produce section. Fruits and vegetables produced in USA!

Even though my planned day was not as planned at all, the day was amazing. Who would have thought a grocery store date would be this much fun?

  1. I love dates like this – they aren’t traditional dinner and wine kinda dates but actually doing things you really enjoy! Those little trolleys are both a blessing and a curse lol. Its all fun and games until your kiddo goes rogue.

The blueberry vanilla goat cheese sounds interesting, and those little shopping carts for kids are just adorable.

  3. That does sound like fun. I enjoy finding new grocery store chains to check out; mostly when we’re on vacation as I feel like we’ve exhausted every local option already.
