Hi there, and welcome back to Life Captured! Today’s post was sparked by the ‘Share Our Lives‘ link-up party, which instantly took me on a trip down memory lane. Personally, my absolute favorite era for music will always be the late 1970s and the 1980s. From the classic anthems of Journey, Bob Seger, and Joan Jett, to the incredible country sounds of Alabama and Kenny Rogers, mixed with a healthy dose of Motown, that era of soft rock and golden oldies just hit differently.
Journey
When Steve Perry is the lead vocal, those are my most favorite from Journey. This You-Tube is their Greatest Hits. These, I really like!
Joan Jett
My two most favorite of hers is: I Hate Myself for Loving You, and I Love Rock-n-Roll.
Alabama
No single favorites. Most all of Alabama songs were and still my favorite. Although, Old Flame and Lady Down on Love brings back so many memories.
Kenny Rogers
Kenny’s ballads. Oh, were they sexy! Timeless. All are still my faves. Lady and Buy Me a Rose, probably is my all time favorites of his.
Bob Seger
Can’t forget about Bob! Again, I like all of Bob’s music. The standout favorites are Old Time Rock ‘n Roll and Turn the Page.

For me, the holy trinity of good music comes down to three things: a strong rhythm, a great beat, and clear lyrics. Because of that, Hard Rock isn’t usually my go-to genre. However, I’ll gladly make an exception if a song hits all three of my rules!
Disturbed is a perfect example of this. Honestly, I think their version of The Sound of Silence completely blows Simon & Garfunkel’s original out of the water. AC/DC, Bon Jovi, and Guns N’ Roses also have a permanent spot on my playlist for the exact same reason.
Wrapping this up, a huge shoutout to ‘Share Our Lives’ for getting me inspired to write this and bringing back so many amazing memories. Thank you!

I know so many of these! I can’t hear any Kenny Rogers without immediately thinking of my grandmother. While my mom and step father played his records too my grandmother was a HUGE HUGE fan. I tend to have very eclectic taste in music and what I want to listen to on any given day depends on my mood.

I am with you on everything but the country music though I do love the Highwaymen! We saw Willie Nelson in concert several years ago, and he was amazing. He sang for two hours straight, and then he was done. No encores or anything! You should consider joining me for Songful Style on the last Monday of the month! There are three of us, and we pick some really different songs!

I also know almost all of the artists. As I came in touch with popular music in the early 70s when I was about 12 some of these artists accompanied me musically. But there are so many more…As I am no native english speaker the lyrics are not the most important for me. I also like it hard (Deep Purple e.g.)…but I like almost every kind of music except (free)Jazz and german folk songs with stupid lyrics.

I am older, so I was really into folk rock when I was a teen and young adult–it was Woodstock era! Bob Dylan, Peter Paul and Mary, Joan Baez, Melanie, Richie Havens, and Simon and Garfunkel, etc. When I got married in the early 70s the Bee Gees were hot, so my husband and I took disco dancing lessons. I picked a Jim Crocce song as our wedding song. My husband liked hard rock and a bit of heavy metal. We always listened to music and have many more favorites through the years and have even become avid opera fans!
This post was a fun one to write. Oh, disco dancing with a partner. What an experience, memories made for sure! I remember wearing those elephant pants (like bell bottoms only a bit larger) while at the roller rink skating to Donna Summer and the Bee Gees!
Ooh! I’ll have to listen to the remake of Sound of Silence. Always happy to listen to Joan Jett and Bob Seger. It’s funny how there are always exceptions to our proclaimed music tastes. For example I am not a fan of country music, but I do like some Johnny Cash, Gretchen Wilson, and Garth Brooks. Ha!
