Hi, welcome to Life Captured. When I launched Life Captured, I couldn’t wait to see the little notification bubble telling me someone had left a comment. I imagined thoughtful conversations about photography, family, or the funny things kids say on my school bus.
Instead, I found out very quickly how the “robots” of the internet work.
The Spammer Reality
It turns out, as soon as you put yourself out there, spammers find you. My inbox has been flooded with “comments” that have nothing to do with my life or my writing. It’s a bit like getting junk mail before your first housewarming guest even arrives.
Why I’m mentioning this:
- Authenticity Matters: I want this to be a clean, safe space for real stories.
- The Learning Curve: As a new blogger, I’m learning how to filter out the noise so the real voices can get through.
- A Request for My Readers: If you see a weird link in the comments, know that I’m working hard behind the scenes to sweep those off the bus!
Seeking “Real” Conversations
While I’m figuring out the technical side of “spam filters,” I want to focus on what I actually came here for: Legitimate connection. I’ve spent 20 plus years listening to people’s stories and capturing their milestones through a lens. Now, I want to hear your stories through your words. I would love to connect with fellow bloggers, parents, or anyone who just appreciates a good, honest chat.
How We Can Connect
If you are a real person (and not a bot!), please know that your comments mean the world to me. I read every single one. If you have a blog of your own, please let me know; I’d love to visit your digital home and return the favor.
“A conversation is a dialogue, not a monologue.” — Truman Capote
To my fellow bloggers: How did you handle the “spam phase” when you first started? Any tips for a newcomer on keeping the comment section clean?
Yesterday is today’s memory.
Be sure to capture your memory today!
All the best,.
Debra Ellen

Discover life through a different lens. All focus, no noise.

I’m using Akismet to filter spam comments. That helps a lot. Like you I really love it when people leave a comment on a blogpost. It’s very heartening to know people read your post.
I have started this on Life Captured. It tremendously helps 🙂
Thanks for coming by and commenting.
All the best.
Oh yes, that is the “fun” side to blogging! I finally had to block anonymous comments on my blog as I had one really snarky commenter that commented on everything and I always get the random with link comments on any old posts but I set it so that I have to approve all comments on blogs over a week old and that seems to have helped– not stopped them entirely but definitely helped.
Makes me wonder how the spammers find us. Do they follow linkup party’s to get sites? I have set Life Captured to wait for comments to be reviewed before they appear to the public. This has helped a lot. A few times it’s put a legit comment into spam.
Thank you for stopping by Joanne!
Have a fun weekend.
Hi Debra,
That is really annoying. But that´s the WWW-reality. On the one side it is good to have connection with the world…but on the other this opportunity is widely abused. What I really hate are those infulencers who post recommandations of almost every -in former days very lonely and nice – small places with the result that they are overcrowded in a short time afterwards.
As you might know that Violetta is not my real name…but I am a real person with real adventures that I post.
Fortunately my blog is seldome visited by spammers.
Have a good time and all the best
Violetta
And I absolutely enjoy seeing and reading your travel excursions!
Thank you Violetta! Have a fun weekend.
All the best.
Week one of Summer school is in the books. Thankfully our week is only four days. I know I couldn’t handle five days. 😖
We’re continuing to work on the puzzle we started before the end of the regular school year. We’ll get it done.
Well, hello Kathy! Thanks for stopping by. At least the summer school is just in the month of June. You will have July and part of August to be free! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by.
Have a fun weekend.
